Is Traditional Machine Learning useless given the Boom of Deep Learning Approaches?

About Mario Graff Guerrero

He  is a Researcher of the National Council of Humanities, Science, and Technology (CONAHCyT) of Mexico commission to INFOTEC. During his sabbatical leave (2021-2022), he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colgate University, and from 2011 to 2014, Dr. Graff was an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Michoacan, México. His research interests are Machine Learning, Evolutionary Computation (EC), and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The research applies EC, mainly Genetic Programming (GP), to supervised learning problems. In this research avenue, special attention has been put on using GP to solve text classification and sentiment analysis problems posed as a supervised learning task. In NLP, the interest is in developing multilingual text representations, which also focus on those representations that facilitate knowledge transfer between languages.
