About Me
Dr. Ricardo Mota Palomino is a distinguished Electrical Engineer, a graduate of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (ESIME) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), where he also obtained his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. He later completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Throughout his career, he has held important positions in the energy and academic sectors. He began his career at the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), which was then part of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), as Head of the Short-Term Operation Office (1984-1985). Between 1989 and 1993, he served as Technical Director of the Regional Activities Program in the Central American Electric Subsector, promoting energy integration across six countries in the region.
In the academic field, he served as Director of ESIME, Zacatenco Unit (2016-2018), and has held multiple roles at IPN, such as Head of the Graduate and Research Studies Section and Academic Deputy Director. He was also Director of the "Eugenio Méndez Docurro" Continuing Education Center (2018-2020) and Director of Development and Sports Promotion at IPN (2004-2006).
His technical experience includes leading the Distribution Network Simulator Project for CFE (2008-2012) and serving as President of the Mexico Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, he led major national projects in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission, as the administrative leader of the Monitoring Services Project for the Supervision of Mexico's Wholesale Electricity Market. He also chaired the Specialty Committee on Electrical Engineering of the Mexican Academy of Engineering (2018-2020).
Recognized for his contribution to research, he was a Level II member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council of Science and Technology for 16 years, and in 1995, he was awarded the "Lázaro Cárdenas" Medal, IPN's highest honor in the category of Research Professor.
Dr. Mota Palomino has published over 187 articles in national and international journals and has supervised more than 70 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses in his field. Since August 2021, he has served as the General Director of CENACE, a position in which he has promoted the development of Mexico's energy sector. In July 2024, he was recognized for his excellence in the public sector by the College of Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronic Engineers of Nuevo León.
